Day 153 – Traditional Houses

Day 153 –  Yazd, Iran

During my Bicycletour from Germany to Iran I saw different types of Architecture. Some of them are based in traditions since Centuries and being the expression of a Culture. Here in Southern Iran I experience to live in different traditional Houses which now are more used as Guesthouses but the Structure is still the same.

The Entry is often just a simple Door based in a also simple Clay Wall which brings you in a little Hall or Yard which is for arranging everything with some who is on the front door and to keep the inner house unshown and private.
Ones passed this Hall, going through different Corridors to one or more Yards which is surrounded by the Colourful Windows for the Rooms to life in it. The Yards keeping usually some sort of watersource like a little pond with a fountain. Here is all over green, some have Palm trees, Bushes, Flowers which invite you to relax and wonder around in the shade.
Dining Area is the little Terrace with soft Carpets and Cushions. The most special for me is the Roofs are also a space for living or working and I have a wonderful View over the City where I am able to spot several other Houses with their Windtowers overreaching them.
This Contrast between the simple Nothingness of narrow streets with just Claywalls, a Door here and there and the Beauty inside with the Richness of colours, water, green, details is very special for me as a German where the most Beauty on Houses are shown outside rather than Inside.
