Day 175 – Iranian Palm Springs

Day 175 – Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province, Iran

I let the Hazar Mountains behind me and after a Downhill during the Night from 3000 Meter down to 750 Meters I arrived in Jiroft or back in summer with cosy 20 degrees at 11pm. Next morning I loaded my Bicycle in the yard of the simple Hotel I stayed in that night. So unreal this change, the past 6 weeks I rarely had 15 degrees during the Day and in Night sometimes frost and now the roads are fuelled with Palmtrees and Dateplantage along the way.
I was lucky to found a route for the upcoming Days on quieter roads along villages, smaller towns and empty desert stretches. Looked like I had some Bikeholidays ahead.

People are way more friendly and interested here, even for an Iranian scale its outstanding, which brought me 10+ approaches in the first 2 hours. The Road brought me also another Puncture at Sunset on the first Day. I was able to cycle out of the small town and into the first Palmplantage to call it a Day and my first Night under Palmtrees. Next morning rolled out of the tent and got company by Ali who worked nearby in the fields and helped me to fix the puncture on my back wheel before heading out on the Roads again.

The directions went down South towards the Coast or easy straight against the wind on the only road the land provides me. It was a constant rhythm of Desert Parts 30km, here and there some Palmplantage for some Rest in the shade and towns to store up water, food and a dose of fun with the locals. Camping was easy under Palmtrees and after Breakfast I had to fix the next puncture. I am not really disappointed about it because everywhere are dorns and its just the way it is. I am lucky with one puncture a Day and happy with a Day without one.

Some Mountains started to grow, also the Temperature got to the 30 °C during Day. By Flying Down a Mountain two Boys on a Motor approached me while driving by and me cycling. We chatted the usual words and blocking the road with our come together when Police drove by the opposite direction. 2 Minutes later they turned and drove by, stopped the Boys and I also stopped to tell that I am ok, and we were just chatting. We continued, so the Police. That’s something what I noticed a lot, that Police is very looking after myself, maybe are obviously forced to be helpful and friendly. The Boys went on and I stopped in Faryab to buy Water, Food and Icecream.

It’s close to Sunset and the Map told me I had to cross 15 km a Mountainrange. Finished my Icecream and made up my mind to get this done before Sunset. I reached the Freeway again since 200 Km, a checkpoint later where I just greeted the Officers while cycling through, I attacked the climb. The silhouette of the Mountains where deep red from the sinking sun and me getting full into Flowstate. The speed by riding downhill out of the Mountains flushed my blood with adrenalin and made it hard to stop riding. Within a second the Mountains disappeared and opened the view into flat landscape where the sun touched the horizon. I pulled hard on the Breaks to get my exit and find a Campspot in a wide and empty land with single trees and bushes standing around. The Sky turned Colours, and I was satisfied by another adventures Day.
