Day 185 – Kalba, United Arabic Emirate, UAE
Finally opened a new Chapter, pedalled the first proper strokes on Arabic Roads outside of Dubai. I followed the big street signs on even bigger roads for 2 hours until the landscape beside the road changed from urban to desert.
The sun dropped quickly to the horizon, shaped the Sand dunes in hard shadows and red Curves all over. Beautiful to watch but a hustle to camp in, lukily in the distance were a formation of some rocks. Like the hole desert beside the Road also this area is covered in fences. I found a small gap, just big enough to squees my body through. unstrapped my panniers from my bike, brought everything to the other side, put it on again to roll closer towards the rocks for a nice place to Camp. The Night served me a clear sky full of stars which made me realize I ve done it, I moved myself to a new Land and a new part of my journey.
Started the next day with packing my stuff together and find back into the routine of living on the road again. So I did, pushed my bike back to the fence, brought everything through the gap to continue towards the Mountains in the Distance where the Border of Oman on the other side is on the Oman Gulf.
The road was good, the climbs desenct, but I was very sick and weak. It was a battle, with a lot breaks along. I slept for 20 min on ruff gravel in the shade of exhaustion, somehow tried to push myself forward and it felt like I was peddling a Motorcycle up the Mountains. I was done. During sunset, I found a rare Palmgarden in the Wadi al Helo with a little empty cottage in it, perfect sized for my tent, bike and panniers.
Still weak and sick I cycled over the last uphill sections the next Day until I saw the Sea again down in the distance. The fast 80 km/h downhill released a heavy dose of adrenalin into my blood, it was a nice reward for the work and a big relief to reached sea level because 3 km down the road is the Border of Oman.
